LA Fire and Police allocates another $200M to emerging managers

The board of the Los Angeles Fire and Police Pensions has approved allocating another $200 million to its 17-year-old PE emerging manager program. The allocation would be managed by money manager Portfolio Advisors, while the pension fund is in the process of hiring a private markets investment officer who might also get involved.

Portfolio Advisors goes all in on secondaries; more hiring ahead

Portfolio Advisors is no johnny-come-lately to the secondary market, having amassed close to $8 billion under management through a series of diverse secondary funds. But consider that just a taste of what's to come.

Over the next year the Darien, Connecticut-based alternatives asset manager plans to wrap up a $2.25 billion flagship fund earmarked for LP interests in private equity pools; raise a debut $500 million to $1 billion fund earmarked for GP-led secondary transactions; and roll out its first secondary fund registered under the Investment Act of 1940.

Known as a registered investment company, or RIC fund, the '40 Act pool will be marketed to individual investors and small institutional investors. For Portfolio Advisors it's a chance to appeal to a broader set of investors and generate a steadily growing flow of revenue.

Diversity at Portfolio Advisors: “A Plus For Sure”

Portfolio Advisors adds three senior executives; seeks mid-level marketer

Portfolio Advisors, the Darien, Connecticut-based manager of funds of funds and separate accounts, has added firepower to its senior ranks while also opening a search for a mid-level marketer.

Joining this year as managing director is Brooks Lindberg, who most recently has owned and run his own private equity and real estate firm, Lindberg Capital. Before that, from 2002 to 2016, Lindberg worked for Zug, Switzerland-based alternative investment manager Partners Group.

Two more managing directors already hired plan to start after Labor Day, according to a source close to the firm. That will give the firm, which manages some $27 billion in assets, including private equity, private credit and real estate, about 20 managing directors.
