NYC seeks PE senior investment officer for retirement systems

New York City is looking for a senior investment officer to help oversee private equity fund investments for its retirement systems, according to a job vacancy notice with the Bureau of Asset Management.

The new senior investment officer will earn $160,000 to $175,000 per year for work that includes evaluating investment opportunities, presenting investment recommendations, tabulating results, managing the portfolio, and designing criteria for research analyses, the job notice stated.

Debut consumer fund from ex-L Catterton exec draws capital

Touting a consumer investment strategy that takes advantage of data science, social networking and technology, Christopher Casgar has secured $36.8 million from the first investor in his debut fund, according to a regulatory filing.

The former managing director at consumer specialist L Catterton founded Wellesley, Massachusetts-based The Newcastle Network in 2020. The firm expects to invest $25 million to $75 million in growth equity or recapitalizations of companies that provide consumer-focused products or services.

Debut-fund-backer Inceptiv looks to raise successor funds, hire interns in 2023

Los Angeles-based asset manager Inceptiv, which has so far backed four firms with its debut platform, including a private equity firm, a growth equity firm, and two real estate firms, has its eye on launching two successor platforms in 2023, Private Equity Career News has learned. The firm also plans to offer summer internships, which could lead to full-time roles for those chosen.

Sycamore co-founder joins NFL great Tom Brady at Consello Group

Peter Morrow, who stepped down as co-founder and managing director of retail investor Sycamore Partners earlier this year, has re-emerged as managing partner of the private equity arm of The Consello Group, where he'll rub elbows with fellow partner and NFL quarterback Tom Brady.

Morrow (pictured) takes the reins of one of four businesses at New York City-based merchant bank and consulting firm Consello Group. The other three are M&A advisory work, outsourced business development, and digital currency advisory work.

Buoyed by single-asset deals, Triago eyes more hiring, new office

A bet placed on single-asset advisory work in 2019 by placement agency Triago has fueled a hiring boom at the firm. It has also propelled the 27-year-old who built the business up the ranks from associate to Global CEO in less than three years.

After cutting his teeth raising money from family offices at placement agency Eaton Partners, Matthew Swain (pictured) joined the New York City office of Triago in the summer of 2019 as an entrepreneur-minded associate to jump-start its GP-led secondaries and primary directs business.

Bain Capital partner departs as second tech opportunities fund passes $2B

Hans Sherman has stepped down as a partner at Bain Capital Tech Opportunities to become a managing director in the Boston office of H.I.G. Growth Partners, Private Equity Career News has learned.

Sherman (pictured) joined in 2019 to help launch Bain Capital Tech Opportunities, which has more than $2 billion spoken for on a successor to a $1.25 billion debut pool closed in 2020. The target is $1.5 billion. Bain Capital declined to comment on the future of the fundraise.

NJ opens search for heads of private equity, private credit

The New Jersey Department of Treasury's investment division is looking to hire professionals to take the reins of its multi-billion-dollar private equity and private credit portfolios.

The positions opened up after Jared Speicher, head of both private equity and private credit portfolios, stepped down earlier this year to become director of private equity at MetLife Investment Management, according to a report by Markets Group.
