Former Corinthian Capital exec launches PE shop Agonic Partners

Michael Haanpaa, a former principal at Corinthian Capital Group, has launched Agonic Partners to invest in underperforming businesses operating in fragmented industries.

Founder and Partner Haanpaa unveiled his New York City-based firm earlier this month on LinkedIn, saying he planned to invest in industrial, manufacturing and consumer industries.

Berkshire, Arsenal Capital hire AI execs; arms race is on!

Buyout firms are adding more data analysts to their payrolls, particularly experts in artificial intelligence and machine learning, as a way of staying ahead of the competition for deals and, ultimately, investor dollars.

Among the latest moves, Boston-based technology investor Berkshire Partners this spring hired data scientist Limor Gulchin as a vice president of artificial intelligence and machine learning to work with portfolio companies.

JMI Equity partner, software expert steps down after 14 years

Sureel Sheth, a general partner at software investor JMI Equity and an expert in digital health, life sciences, legal and human capital management technologies, left the firm last week.

The departure comes just over a year after the firm announced the closing of its eleventh flagship fund at $2.4 billion.

Ex-Thompson Street, Audax execs launch buy-and-build shop

Former managing directors at Thompson Street Capital Partners and Audax Private Equity have launched Agellus Capital to pursue consolidations in the lower middle market.

Managing Partners Jeff Aiello and Beau Thomas announced the co-founding of the St. Louis, Missouri-based firm yesterday on Linkedin. In their respective Linkedin posts both Aiello and Thomas referred to each other as good friends and noted they were former colleagues at Audax Private Equity. We were unable to reach them by press-time for comment on any fundraising or hiring plans.

Ex-credit heads at Capital Dynamics launch their own firm

Jens Ernberg and Thomas Hall, previously co-heads of private credit at Swiss money manager Capital Dynamics, have left to start their own private credit shop targeting the lower middle market.

New York City-based Camberline Capital Management LLC plans to invest across capital structures of companies operating in a variety of industries, according to a Linkedin post by Founder and Managing Partner Hall. The pair appear to have left on good terms with Zug, Switzerland-based Capital Dynamics, which manages or advises on more than $14 billion in assets.
