Blue Nexus Ventures seeks third managing partner: Sponsored

Blue Nexus Ventures, a start-up PE firm investing in baby boomer-led companies and business owners looking to make transitions and that need help staying ahead of the technology curve, seeks a third managing partner to join the firm.

Managing Partner Brian Hult said that candidates should have exceptional fundraising skills. Those would complement the technical and operational backgrounds of himself and Managing Partner Doug Gerber as they raise their debut fund. The new managing partner would also work closely with Gerber and Hult on investing, from deal sourcing to value creation to exiting.

The Firm: Founded in 2021 by Gerber and Hult, Blue Nexus Ventures plans to acquire companies from Baby Boomer owners who have failed to keep pace with AI, digitization and other technology trends. The founders see a vast, “blue ocean” of such companies, many of them without an obvious succession plan. Agnostic as to industry, the firm plans to acquire companies generating EBITDA of $2 million to $10 million. It recently assembled a six-person, blue-chip Board of Directors to assist with generating deal flow and value creation.

The Culture: Blue Nexus Ventures provides a collegiate atmosphere but also an entrepreneurial one where go-getters can thrive. The ideal third managing partner, Gerber said, would bring determination to succeed and adaptability. “We want a steady hand on the wheel, but also someone who’s not averse to taking a calculated risk if necessary.”

Qualifications: You should have at least 5 to 10 years of experience as an investment banker or at a fund manager, and at least one exit under your belt. In addition, you should have experience recruiting, developing and leading a team, as well as working with entrepreneurs and other business owners. An MBA is preferred.

Location: You’ll be based on the East Coast, working remotely to start. You should be prepared to travel to Boston and New York for team meetings and to other locations as appropriate to meet with potential investors.

The Compensation: You’ll have an equity-based compensation package, including GP carry. You’ll earn a salary once sufficient management fees are generated.
