Charlesbank, Beach Point hire senior talent execs

Buyout firm Charlesbank Capital Partners and credit shopBeach Point Capital  Management have hired new senior talent executives, the latest moves by PE firms to strengthen their talent leadership ranks. Both firms employ teams of more than 160 people.

Catherine Farrow, a former vice president of talent and operations at Bain & Company, joined Boston-based Charlesbank Capital Partners last month to serve as its head of human capital. Her role involves recruiting, professional development, learning, culture and engagement. Her joining follows last summer’s departure of the Chief People Officer Ellen Walpert, who was in the job about a year. Walpert has since moved to Thomas H. Lee Partners to serve as a managing director and chief performance officer.

Leigh Knight, who has served as Brevan Howard’s U.S. head of human resources, joined Los Angeles-based Beach Point Capital Management in January as its head of human resources. She previously worked as a human resources leader at several other firms, including as a vice president of human resources at secondary buyer Lexington Partners. Beach Point Capital Management’s former head of human resources, Jennifer Lesser, left late last year to become head of human capital at Los Angeles-based food sector specialist Butterfly Equity.

The Trend: The hires by Charlesbank Capital Partners and Beach Point Capital Management are the latest of several talent executive moves tracked by Private Equity Career News.

  • Late last month we reported on the departure of New York City-based General Atlantic’s head of global talent acquisition, Kristen DiStasio.
  • Katie Morin, who recently worked as a senior vice president of human resources at Silver Lake, joined New York City-based credit specialist New Mountain Capital this month as a vice president of HR, recruiting and talent development, according to her LinkedIn profile.
  • Jenny Machida, who previously served as partner and practice leader-talent value delivery in deals for PwC, joined New York City-based buyout firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice in February as managing director of portfolio talent.
  • Anna Jansson Sharkey, a former managing director of human resources at Blackstone,joined New York City-based hedge fund manager Capstone Investment Advisors in December as its chief people officer.
  • Gen Kapoor, a former head of talent management at SoftBank Group International, joined San Francisco-based venture capital, growth equity and real estate firm Galvanize Climate Solutions last year as head of HR.
  • Julie (MillerStacey, former head of talent at Altamont Capital Partners, joined Cleveland-based buyout firm Blue Point Capital Partners last year as head of talent.

The Upshot: Talent executive positions have become more important to firms in recent years as they recognize their contributions toward long-term growth and value creation. Talent leaders strategize how to build, develop and retain diverse teams at PE firms and their portfolio companies.
