The Sterling Group to hire post-MBA vice president and summer 2023 intern: Sponsored

Mid-market private equity firm The Sterling Group, steward to such companies as Bad Boy Mowers and Frontline Road Safety, seeks to hire a post-MBA vice president to join its investment team. The firm would also like to hire a first-year MBA student for a summer 2023 internship.

The Firm: Founded in 1982, Houston, Texas-based The Sterling Group invests in mid-market manufacturing, distribution and industrial services businesses. It is known for its hands-on approach to improving operations at its portfolio companies. In mid-2020 the firm closed on its fifth investment fund, which was oversubscribed at $2 billion.

The Role: As a member of the deal team, the vice president will be involved in all stages of transactions, from developing an investment thesis to evaluating the performance of companies to preparing for an exit. You will also work closely with industrial portfolio companies to improve their strategy and operations. Toward that end, vice presidents spend a year embedded inside a portfolio company in a senior management role reporting directly to the CEO.

You should want to live in Houston.


Requirements for Intern: Applicants for this 10-week program during the summer of 2023 should be a first-year MBA student at a “top tier university.” You should have prior experience in investment banking, private equity, management consulting, or operational experience at a “premier” industrial company.
