Golden Gate Capital loses another managing director; maintains MD count

Josh Cohen has stepped down as managing director at San Francisco-based Golden Gate Capital, continuing a string of senior departures, Private Equity Career News has learned. However, the buyout firm appears to have maintained a steady count of about a dozen managing directors–its highest rank–over the past year.

Cohen takes with him deal expertise in retail, restaurants and consumer products. Before joining the firm in 2009, he served as a vice president at turnaround specialist Sun Capital Partners. Before that he worked as an associate at buyout and credit firm Audax Group, according to his Linkedin profile.

Golden Gate hires ex-BlackRock exec as head of talent

Golden Gate Capital, which has lost a number of executives to spin-out groups over the past few years, has hired its first head of talent to take charge of internal human resources.

Expect Nichole Barcelon to get involved in portfolio company recruiting over time. Before joining San Francisco-based Golden Gate Capital she served as human resources director at money manager BlackRock.

Ex-Golden Gate, KKR executives launch investment firm

Four ex-executives of buyout shops Golden Gate Capital and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co have joined forces with others to co-found a San Francisco-based investment firm called Sea Cliff Partners.

Their Linkedin profiles suggest the firm will take a private equity-like approach to investing in North American publicly-traded small and mid-cap companies with market caps ranging from $1 billion to $10 billion.

Co-founders Arthur Baptist (partner at Sea Cliff Partners, pictured) and Marcello Pantuliano (senior partner) most recently served as vice president and managing director, respectively, at Golden Gate Capital.

Sophia Lee departs as head of investor relations at Golden Gate

Sophia Lee has stepped down as principal and head of investor relations at San Francisco-based private equity firm Golden Gate Capital, Private Equity Career News has learned.

Lee was promoted to the role in April after serving as a vice president for the past two and a half years. Prior to joining the firm as an associate in 2015, she served in the tech investment banking branch of J.P. Morgan.

Lee’s departure marks at least the sixth mid-level professional to leave the firm in the past year. Private Equity Career News recently published an article describing a new firm founded by four of the professionals that left last June.

Ex-Golden Gate foursome emerges on the fundraising trail
