Start-up San Francisco firm Aldaron is raising debut fund

San Francisco-based private equity firm Aldaron, co-founded by William Ernst Oberndorf and Evan Christian Mendez, is out raising money for a debut fund.

That's according to a regulatory form for the Aldaron Fund I-A and I-B funds filed late last month by Aldaron Management. No target amount was listed for the funds. The current gross asset values of the two funds total more than $27 million, according to a Form ADV.

Former Carlyle, Goldman Sachs exec launches placement agency

Zeynep Korur, who held family office fundraising roles at blue-chip asset managers Carlyle Group and Goldman Sachs, has launched a boutique placement agency.

New York City-based GPX Partners, formed in July, provides fundraising, financial advisory and private capital formation services. Specifically, it works with sponsors, founders and business owners to raise money for funds, growth investments, co-investments, GP solutions, joint ventures and other ventures.

Ex-Goldman Sachs campus recruiter joins Carlyle Group

The Carlyle Group has hired the former global head of campus recruiting and diversity recruiting at Goldman Sachs to be a managing director of human capital management.

In his new position Omer Tanvir will focus on the operational and tech side of talent management, rather than recruiting. Still, his knowledge of campus recruiting methods could come in handy.

Carlyle taps new diversity head, modifies website language

With its portfolio of aerospace, defense and government portfolio companies and close ties to government, few PE firms have as much to lose as Washington-based Carlyle Group by antagonizing the anti-DEI administration of President Donald Trump.

Yet late last year Carlyle Group promoted then-DEI Vice President ‘Iolani Bullock to head of diversity and inclusion. Bullock joined in 2020 as an associate vice president of DEI, after working at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business as director of MBA admissions, diversity & inclusion and partnerships.

Private credit execs back in the game after sale to Carlyle

Canal Road Group, a private credit fund manager launched last year by the co-founders of CBAM Partners, bought in 2022 by Carlyle Group for an eye-popping sum, is out raising money for a debut fund.

Led by Co-Chief Executive Officers Mike Damaso and Don Young, the Miami-based firm filed a regulatory form this month for its Canal Road Private Credit Fund LP. No offering amount was listed, and we were unable to reach executives to talk about fundraising or hiring. However, their track record suggests we may witness a rapid ramp-up in both.

Ex-Advent, Centerbridge, Carlyle execs launch debut buyout fund

Industrial and services-focused Cross Rapids Capital, founded by executives who moved from Advent International, Carlyle Group and Centerbridge Partners, is raising money for a debut buyout fund.

The New York City-based firm’s managing partner, Kyle Cruz, filed a regulatory form in late December for Cross Rapids Capital Partners I LP fund. No target was listed, although the firm's plan to invest $40 million to $125 million per deal suggests a substantial target.
