Performance Equity Management, a storied asset manager whose founders two decades ago spun out of General Motors Investment Management Corporation, seeks to hire an investment analyst to work on PE fund commitments, co-investments and secondary transactions.
Reporting to the managing directors, the analyst will work as part of a team evaluating opportunities, writing reports, and making presentations for the investment committee in support of transaction recommendations. The analyst also helps to monitor the performance of fund managers and their underlying portfolio companies.
“Collegial” and “family-oriented” is how Anita Windels, the director of HR and administration, describes the corporate culture at the Greenwich, Connecticut-firm. “We work hard,” said Windels. “But at the same time it’s pleasurable to come to work because you’re surrounded by people who support you.”
The Firm: Performance Equity Management, with some $9 billion in assets under management, has a fast-growing product line of separate accounts, funds of funds and co-investment funds. These are typically earmarked for investments in venture capital, growth equity and buyouts, which provide diversification to a client base of public pensions, corporate pensions, endowments, foundations, family offices and wealthy investors. The roughly 37-person team is led by President John Clark. He was part of the founding team that managed the alternative investments portfolio for the General Motors pension fund.
Qualities Sought: The successful candidate will be a pre-MBA college graduate with at least one to two years of full-time work experience (not including internships) in asset management, equity research, consulting or accounting. Strong analytical, modeling and quantitive skills are a must, along with the ability to work collaboratively. Candidates should enjoy working at a small firm where job descriptions are fluid and where hard work is prized.
The Vibe: The small size of the firm means everyone gets plenty of face time with senior executives and other colleagues. The firm regularly hosts team-building excursions where employees can play golf, tennis, or kayak; potluck meals at the office; and an annual holiday party and gift-swap.
Location: Employees are required to work Tuesday through Thursday in the Greenwich, Connecticut office, with the option to work from home Mondays and Fridays. The firm is located in an office park featuring an on-site cafe and fitness center. It’s about a 5-minute drive from a downtown known for its abundance of restaurants and shops; a shuttle bus to the train station is available.
Compensation: The position pays an annual base salary of $90,000 to $110,000, along with a discretionary bonus. Generous benefits include free lunches when working in the office; a health reimbursement account with full funding of in-network deductibles; and a 100% match on 401K contributions.
