Terra Nova Solutions, an acquisitive, PE-backed environmental services company, intends to hire a full-time director of M&A to find, evaluate and help integrate target companies.
It’s a great opportunity for a seasoned business development professional or investment banker eager to do more than just source deals. You’ll be climbing aboard a platform company with an aggressive growth plan and led by a new management team hungry to deliver a great return for themselves and for backer Calvert Street Capital Partners. It’s also a chance to join a company doing some good for the planet.
Terra Nova Solutions provides industrial maintenance, remediation, waste management and related services along the coast of the Southeast. Its clients include manufacturers, utilities, transportation companies, chemical companies and pharmaceutical companies. The three-year-old company was started by CEO Bill Hunter as a platform to acquire family-run businesses generating $1 million to $10 million in EBITDA. About halfway through Calvert Street’s holding period, the company has made three acquisitions and plans to double in size via organic growth and another handful of add-ons before exiting.
As deal quarterback, you’ll be responsible for finding potential targets, evaluating them, and bringing new acquisitions into the fold. You will get to know these companies well: among position requirements, you’ll need to “develop an intimate understanding of all operational aspects of the business including sales, operations, HSE and accounting.” Day to day you’ll work closely with business owners, with the executive team at Terra Nova, and with the deal team at Calvert Street.
To qualify you should have a Bachelor’s degree and at least five to 10 years of experience working in investing banking, transaction services, corporate development or related field. If you spent at least two of those years working for a service-based industrial business, all the better. Ideally you’ll be located within driving distance of one of the company’s four office locations in South Carolina and North Carolina. Hunter describes the corporate culture as “high-energy and very fast-paced.” In candidates the company especially prizes integrity, a collaborative nature, and the ability to communicate effectively and represent the company well to a variety of stakeholders.
