Jay-Z’s LA firm secures $100M+ for venture, growth equity

MarcyPen Capital Partners, a just-formed early and growth-stage investment firm part-owned by rapper and investor Jay-Z and co-led by an advisor to former President Barack Obama, has raised more than $100 million for a private equity fund.

Los Angeles-based MarcyPen Capital Partners has raised at least $100.6 million of a targeted $250 million for its MarcyPen Opportunities Fund II LP, a regulatory filing from October shows. The firm has raised at least $35.8 million for a related fund. The funds counted 29 and 4 investors, respectively.
