Ocean Avenue co-founder leaves to back independent sponsor deals through new venture

Duran Curis, a co-founder of independent sponsor backer Ocean Avenue Capital Partners, has left to pursue similar transactions for an affiliate of San Diego-based investment bank Aviara Partners.

Curis began serving as managing partner of Aviara Partners Capital this month, according to his Linkedin profile. The firm, his profile says, "provides sophisticated institutional investors with access to compelling lower middle market equity investments through its extensive network of independent sponsor relationships."

Teams at nine public firms grow 14 percent, led by Ares, Apollo

Teams at nine publicly traded private equity firms grew 14 percent during 2025 and early 2026—roughly double the pace of the previous year—according to a recent analysis by Private Equity Career News.

Together, the firms added 3,209 employees over the past year, bringing their combined workforce to 25,871. The analysis is based on company 10-K filings, with some firms reporting employee counts as of Dec. 31, 2025, and others as of March 31, 2026. It represents the largest annual increase in combined headcount among the firms in recent years.

Former Charlesbank execs launch services-focused PE firm

Two former investment professionals at Boston-based Charlesbank Capital Partners have launched a new private equity firm, joining a growing list of emerging managers entering the market this year.

Jake Lippe and Brian Pegno have formed Center Street Holdings, a Chicago and Boston-based firm focused on services industries. The pair are among several experienced private equity executives to strike out on their own in recent months, alongside the founders of Golden Lakes Partners and Blackwell Health Partners.

NJ seeks four senior portfolio managers for alternatives, fixed income

The New Jersey Division of Investment, one of the largest public pension investors in the United States, is recruiting four senior portfolio managers to help oversee its roughly $86 billion portfolio, including leadership roles in private equity, private credit, real estate and fixed income.

The positions, which all carry salaries ranging from $147,906 to $219,389, are based in Trenton and report to senior investment leadership within the division. The investment office manages retirement assets for more than 837,000 members across seven New Jersey public pension systems.
