Ex-Gen Cap America execs target $200 million for debut fund

Highland Rim Capital, co-founded in 2022 by a trio of former executives at Gen Cap America, is raising money for a $200 million debut buyout fund.

Founder and Partners Chris Godwin, Mark Isaacs and Matt Lane have hired placement agent Eaton Partners, a Stifel company, to help raise the pool, according to a recent regulatory filing for Highland Rim Capital Partners A LP fund and a parallel fund.

Ex-NHL player plans to create talent pipeline into business development

“We have great connectivity,” said Jeff Brubaker, describing ex-professional athletes such as himself. “That’s a form of capital when you think about it.”

Indeed, Brubaker, who played left wing for the New York Rangers and other NHL teams for most of the 1980s, parlayed the popularity of his sport and his own considerable talents into a career as an investment banker. His firm, Players Capital Group, employs more than two dozen former pro athletes working in half a dozen cities.

Big Moves: LFE Capital, Avista Capital Partners

Kellie Bauer steps down as partner and CFO at Wayzata, Minnesota-based health and wellness investment firm LFE Capital, according to a bounce-back email. Bauer, according to her Linkedin profile, joined the firm in 2000 after serving as a staff accountant at Romer & Co.

Don Casey joins New York City-based healthcare investor Avista Capital Partners as strategic executive to work on medical technology and specialty distribution deals, according to Pulse 2.0. Casey most recently served as CEO of dental products and technology company Dentsply Sirona.

Ex-McNally Capital executive launches new firm

Fundraising expert Beth Rahn, the former principal and head of family capital at McNally Capital and an advocate for women in private equity, has started a new firm.

Rahn launched New Era Advisors as managing partner earlier this year, according to her LinkedIn profile.  Her profile describes her fundraising, investor relations and business development skills, as well as her advocacy of “gender equity through capital allocation.”

Sports investor Otro Capital hires PJT Park Hill to raise debut fund

Otro Capital, launched last year by former executives at RedBird Capital Partners, has hired placement agent PJT Park Hill to raise its debut fund.

News of the hiring comes in regulatory forms for Otro Capital Fund I-A LP and a related fund filed by the 11-year-old, New York City-based sports, media, gaming and entertainment investor.

Industry veteran launches advisory firm for emerging managers, LPs

Kelly DePonte, who spent more than 31 years in private equity as a limited partner, as an advisor to LPs and as a placement agent, has opened up his own advisory firm to work with both GPs and LPs.

DePonte (pictured) launched Bennington, Vermont-based Kelly DePonte Advisory LLC after retiring late last month as managing director and head of research at San Francisco-based placement agency Probitas Partners. He remains a senior advisor with the firm.

Johns Hopkins University seeks managing director for private markets: Updated

Update: Shortly after this story was posted, Johns Hopkins University updated the job posting for the managing director-private markets position to say it was “on-hold, has been canceled or has been filled.”

Johns Hopkins University has launched a search for a managing director to help set and execute on private markets strategy for the $8 billion endowment manager.

“This is a significant opportunity to further build out a private equity program in a broader portfolio with ample liquidity and a goal to materially increase private equity exposure, and the buyout exposure specifically,” stated a position description from executive search firm David Barrett Partners.
