Former Applied Materials, Wisconsin pension execs seek Fund II

After leading a handful of early-stage venture deals in the Midwest, the partners of 11-year-old WISC Partners have turned their attention to backing later-stage tech-enabled services companies.

The partners have also set their sights on raising $50 million for a second fund, and on eventually turning the firm over to a new generation of executives still largely to be hired.

AustralianSuper hires emerging-manager-focused NYC deputy CIO

AustralianSuper has hired emerging-manager-specialist Eneasz Kadziela, the former deputy CIO of the New York City Retirement Systems.

The appointment is part of the A$365 billion ($240 billion) fund’s effort to rapidly grow its New York City-based private markets team, which has added several senior professionals over the past year.

Cerberus, TZP, Brentwood, NYC lose senior executives

Harrison Davis has left as partner at New York City-based buyout firm TZP Group to join mid-cap firm H.I.G Capital as a managing director for its Miami office. The move is one of several recent departures from prominent PE firms or investors.

Ex-Brighton Park, BV execs launch software, tech firms

Two former executives at Brighton Park Capital and BV Investment Partners have, respectively, launched their own PE firms this year with the goal of taking small software and technology companies to the next level.

Jeff Machlin, who left growth equity shop Brighton Park Capital in January, started Greenwich, Connecticut-based Wingman Growth Partners the following month and recently began raising money for a debut fund, a regulatory filing shows. Machlin leads a team of about seven, including Partner Eric Anderson, who previously served as a vice president at software investor Vista Equity Partners.

Big Moves: VISTRA, Thoma Bravo, AIMCo

Wladimir Ortega joins the Boston office of fund administrator VISTRA as an enterprise account manager, according to his Linkedin profile. Ortega, who earlier in his career served as senior investment officer-private markets at the Office of the New York City Comptroller, most recently served as senior sales executive at SS&C Technologies.

PE firms expand payrolls modestly for second year in a row

Payrolls at nine publicly traded private equity firms grew by 7 percent last year and the early part of 2025. That marked a slightly lower rate than in 2023 and a far slower rate than in 2022, according to recent analysis by Private Equity Career News.

The introduction of new investment strategies may be behind some of that hiring, according to Charles Wilson, senior vice president of investment management for Selby Jennings.

Wisconsin opens search for VC portfolio manager

The State of Wisconsin Investment Board has begun looking for a portfolio manager to work on a collection of venture capital investments.

In opening its search SWIB joins a number of pension funds, including two of the country's largest, hunting for PE talent. California Public Employees' Retirement System has opened a search for a level I investment officer to work on both PE fund commitments and co-investments; California State Teachers' Retirement System has opened a search for an associate portfolio manager of direct PE investments.
