David Fann joins VSS Capital Partners to head IR, fundraising

David Fann has joined VSS Capital Partners as senior managing director and head of investor relations, signaling the 43-year-old firm’s desire to remain a fundraising and hiring force in the years ahead.

It’s been just over a year and a half since the firm closed its fourth structured capital fund at $530 million, way ahead of its $400 million target. The firm is widely expected to come back to market next year to raise a bigger successor.

Execs from Aurelius, Fairmont, H.I.G. Capital launch Miami firm; want to expand team

Three Floridian dealmakers recently working at Aurelius Group, Fairmont Partners and H.I.G. Capital have teamed up to launch a Miami-based firm to invest in special situations on a deal by deal basis.

Matias Campiani, until recently VP of new business development at European buyout firm Aurelius Group, Valerio Forte, until recently head of the business development team at buyout firm H.I.G. Capital, and Martin Wentzel, most recently a founding partner at independent sponsor and consulting firm Fairmont Partners LLC, have formed Profondas Capital.

Hadley Family Office hits market with fund of search funds

If search funds turn out to be the next big thing in private equity, Toronto-based Hadley Family Office wants to be in early on the craze.

The PE investment arm of the six-year-old single family office, Hadley Family Capital, is out raising $35 million to $50 million for Hadley Family Capital Fund I LP. The pool is earmarked to back 40 to 50 search funds, which should eventually produce a portfolio of some 25 companies.

Two Boston-based private equity firms—Eastfield Capital and Tideshift Capital Group—have splashed into the lower middle market, led by founders with experience at Nautic Partners, Freeman Spogli & Co. and Centerbridge Partners.

Nick Vidnovic, a former principal at Nautic Partners, and Juan Pita, a former principal at Freeman Spogli, started Eastfield Capital to invest on a deal by deal basis in consumer services and business services companies.

Infrastructure investor Macquarie is building a NYC buyout team

The asset management division of Australian infrastructure giant Macquarie Group Ltd plans to hire a senior associate and an associate to join a fledgling buyout team in New York City.

The buyout team at Macquarie Asset Management "is being developed to capitalize on Macquarie's leading position as a global infrastructure investor," the recruitment ad for the senior associate position states.
